Where is the school located?

The school is located at 9525 Colesville Road, which is just 1.5 miles north of downtown Silver Spring within the Beltway.

What grades do you serve?

The Springwell School is currently approved by the State of Maryland’s Department of Education to offer Grades K - 8. To stay informed, subscribe to our mailing list today.

Tell me about your small group learning and mixed-age classrooms.

The Springwell model is to operate in mixed-age classrooms. We currently have three homerooms that serve students based on their developmental needs. During academic times, our students split off into small learning groups based on their math and language arts levels. All students are challenged to grow and we tailor the curriculum to the whole child.

Do you accept students with learning differences and special needs?

Yes, the inherent structure of our school, combined with a student learning plan, allows our school to accommodate some students with learning differences. Our warm, nurturing environment naturally provides several common learning supports that diverse learners need. These include but are not limited to small class sizes, additional time to complete assignments, movement breaks, instruction at each child’s individual level, and academic remediation.

Students need to feel connected and engaged in their learning. At Springwell, the strong program of inquiry, combined with important foundation skills instruction, allows each student to develop a love of learning and a curiosity about the world around them. We assess each applicant on a case-by-case basis and accept those who fit within our program.

How about students with anxiety?

Our small class size and focus on socio-emotional learning make us well-equipped to accommodate students with anxiety. We believe in building resilience and fostering a supportive learning environment where everyone feels safe to learn and grow as they develop a life-long love of learning This is one of our strengths as a school.

We work hand-in-hand in collaboration with each family to fully meet the needs of each child.

What is your homework and testing policy?

We use assessments strategically, including a diagnostic test at the beginning of the year, a progress check in the middle of the year, and pre-testing/post-quizzing aligned with specific learning units.

We prioritize meaningful learning over traditional homework burdens. Research shows no significant benefit to blanket homework assignments. Instead, we focus on targeted practice throughout the school day and encourage activities like reading for pleasure, unstructured time for creative learning integration, and family discussions about the day's learning.

If a family requests homework, we will send targeted practice home.

Do you administer medication?

Yes, we have certified medication technicians who are trained to administer medications to meet your child’s needs.

Are there still spots for 2024-25?

Yes, however, we are capping enrollments at 30. Spots will fill on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you are interested in Springwell, inquire today.

What’s the application process?

Applying to the Springwell School is simple and straightforward. There are six steps to enroll at Springwell School.

2. Visit the school at a private tour or open house

3. Complete an application form and submit your application materials

4. Schedule a Shadow Day or School Visit for the student

5. Attend the family meeting with the Head of School
